Hertswise – Age UK Herts/HILS/Herts Mind Network
Hertswise is a service designed with people living with dementia, low level memory loss or mild cognitive impairment, and their friends, family and carers at its heart. It’s provided by a partnership of community and voluntary organisations along with local volunteers to ensure we can provide the kind of support that is needed at a local level. We provide fun and welcoming community groups, whereby we work with service users to find out what activities they would like to get involved with, and with the support of our volunteers will aim to run these activities. Groups are designed to promote both physical and mental wellbeing, so whether it be chair-based exercise, singing, reminiscence, arts & crafts or quizzes, we aim to provide an inclusive and enjoyable experience.
The partners involved in Hertswise have a wealth of experience in working with and valuing the contribution that volunteers make, and it is this contribution from volunteers that is essential to ensure the success of Hertswise. Volunteers will be supporting the locality worker to run activities, assist individuals in taking part, be a familiar face of Hertswise, make refreshments, and welcome individuals into the group. Any volunteer time at all given to the project is appreciated, although the groups run every week for two hours and so volunteers will have the opportunity to volunteer up to a few hours every week if desired.
The partnership will provide essential training for all volunteers, and any volunteers wishing to join us will undergo a full DBS check prior to taking part.
