One of the great benefits of being a member of the Centre for Voluntary Service St Albans District is that you have access to a weekly column reserved for you in the St Albans & Harpenden Review newspaper.
This space can be used by you to recruit volunteers!
Please follow the guidelines below if you would like to have an article about your group in the newspaper.
Guidelines for writing a column in the Review
The focus of the column should be the recruitment of volunteers, although this does not preclude the promotion of other events within the article.
Your column should outline:
what your organisation does
what you need volunteers to do
a broad outline of the vacant role(s)
any skills in particular your organisation is looking for
anything else potential volunteers might need to know
Columns should be about 200 words in length and written in the third person.
There will not be space for a photo or logo in the Review. If you would like to send a photograph it should be high a definition digital photograph (.jpg format), and should be attached to the e-mail. If a photograph is to be included, you can also supply a caption for it. The photo may be used with your column on our website, on a poster in the Volunteer Centre and Social Networking sites.
The column should not include contact numbers for the organisation, apart from details of any website. The CVS will add a final paragraph giving CVS contact details for further information (this allows for monitoring of response rates to columns etc).
Please email your column to: [email protected]
We will then confirm when your column will be published in the Review. This is on a first come first serve basis so ensure you get your column in early to ensure it is published on your preferred date!
We measure our success by the people we place and ask that you record whether individuals heard about the role through the Review column so we can update our database
After publication, the Review column is used to generate a poster which is displayed at the Volunteer Centre, and the Central Library in St Albans. It will also be on our website, Twitter and Facebook page. We will contact you after 6-8 weeks to find out what response you had to the column and whether you have any potential or new volunteers as a result. We would be grateful if you could share the following information;
contact details of those who enquired
number responding to the column
number who have started volunteering
